YMF Recognizes Life Members and Student Award Winners Print E-mail
Newly Inducted Life Members The Met Section recognized some of its newest and lifetime members at the Ridgway Awards and Life Member Installation Dinner, held on April 29, 2009 at Manhattan College in Riverdale, NY. The annual event, named after the first president of the Metropolitan Section and organized by the Younger Member Forum, included the presentation of certificates to newly inducted life members and awards to outstanding members from all seven ASCE student chapters located in the Met Section.

Is There a "Management Track" for Civil Engineers? Print E-mail
Executive Forum Panelists A common perception among young civil engineers starting out in the profession is that they must eventually pursue a management track in order to have a successful career. To provide further insight into this issue, the Younger Member Forum selected "The Management Track" as the topic of its Eighth Annual Executive Forum, which was held at the General Society of Mechanics and Tradesmen in Manhattan on February 26, 2009.

Casting Call for Engineering Students and Recent Graduates Print E-mail
ClapperboardIf you're a young engineer and interested in being on a national television show, a new series being produced for MTV called "Hack'd" has posted a casting call for engineering students and recent graduates across the country. The show will feature young engineers, 19-25 years old, which can showcase their engineering knowledge, creativity, and sense of humor, competing in teams to out-hack each other with creative feats of engineering. Applicants must submit a short resume, bio, and video clips online by Friday, February 6th.

Met Section Members Volunteer at Soup Kitchen Holiday Party Print E-mail
Community Lunch Holiday Party On December 5, 2008, ASCE members helped to brighten the faces of more than 50 children at the Community Lunch Holiday Party at the Broadway Presbyterian Church in Morningside Heights. Community Lunch is a soup kitchen run by the students of Columbia University serving disadvantaged people living in the area. Volunteers helped to decorate the room with balloons, streamers, lights, and snowflakes and prepared activity tables for children to decorate cupcakes and create arts and crafts such as snowmen, the Star of David, Three Kings crowns, and jewelry. Dinner was also provided for the kids and their parents. See the Met Section photo gallery for more pictures from this event.
