Over 150 people attended the "Crane Safety Training for Engineers and Supervisors" lecture at Domenico's Restaurant Pizzeria in Levittown on October 15, 2009, setting an all-time attendance record for a Long Island Branch event since its inception in 1971. Speakers Matthew J. Burkart, P.E. and Harlan Fair presented material that allowed construction engineers, supervisors, and owners to learn more about crane safety on construction sites and how important it is to have crane safety plans so that accidents can be prevented.

On September 30, 2009, the ASCE Long Island Branch held its seventh annual golf outing at the Timber Point Golf Course in Great River, NY. After starting off the day with a barbecue luncheon, sixteen foursomes from different companies competed in a best ball tournament. Windy weather made the course particularly challenging given its location adjacent to Great South Bay. The golf outing was followed by a dinner to recognize the tournament champions and the following award winners:

The ASCE Long Island Branch kicked off the 2009-2010 year of events with its annual technical presentations with the ITE Met Section at the Milleridge Inn in Jericho, NY on September 17, 2009. Mr. Robert M. Eschbacher, P.E. and Mr. Robert Brown, AICP of VHB Engineering, Surveying and Landscape Architecture, P.C. began the afternoon session with a presentation on the "Traffic Impact Study for the Long Island Lighthouse Project".
