40th Annual Metropolitan Section Geotechnical Seminar Print E-mail

The G-I Chapter of New York City did it again! On May 12th, nearly 200 geotechnical professionals from the Tri-state area attended the 40th Annual Metropolitan Section Geotechnical Seminar held at Hotel Pennsylvania in Manhattan, New York. This year's seminar was entitled, "Geotechnical Aspects of Safeguarding Infrastructure: Applying Risk Management to Build Resiliency".

Tall Structure Response to Blasting Print E-mail

Dr. Cathy Aimone-Martin of Aimone-Martin Associates, presented the 41st Annual Martin S. Kapp Memorial Lecture titled "Tall Structure Response to Blasting" to a capacity audience at Stout Bar in New York City. Dr. Aimone-Martin discussed the history of  blast-induced structure response research for residential structures first employed by the U.S. Bureau of Mines (USBM) in the 1970's, and how the results of these studies have been incorporated into local New York City practice through guidelines such as the FDNY explosives regulations and Technical Policy and Procedure Notice #10/88 (TPPN #10/88).

2015-2016 Graduate Scholarship - Geotechnical Print E-mail
The American Society of Civil Engineers Metropolitan Section – Geotechnical Group (ASCE Met Section – Geotech Group) will award at least one scholarship to a graduate student studying geotechnical engineering at a university within the New York City Metropolitan Area (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and the Bronx). At least one scholarship will provide a stipend of $3,000 to be used during the student's graduate studies at one of the Engineering Schools the New York City Metropolitan Area. Only students having been accepted into or currently matriculated in a graduate geotechnical engineering program by June 2015 are eligible for the scholarship.

Applications must be accompanied by a certified transcript and received at the ASCE Met Section – Geotech Group by December 11, 2015. The application is attached herein.
