 On February 1, 2013, ASCE National President Gregory E. DiLoreto, P.E., P.L.S., D.WRE, F.ASCE dedicated Grand Central Terminal as a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark. ASCE's dedication ceremony was part of a full day of activities that was planned by MTA Metro-North Railroad to celebrate the Terminal's Centennial, which included speeches, award ceremonies and musical performances.

 In September 2011, the Met Section submitted a nomination package to ASCE's National History and Heritage Committee (HHC) to designate Grand Central Terminal as a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark (NHCEL). The HHC voted to recommend the Terminal for designation as a NHCEL, which was formally approved by ASCE's Board of Direction.

To celebrate the 85th anniversary of the Holland Tunnel and the 75th anniversary of the Lincoln Tunnel, the Hoboken Historical Museum has opened a new exhibit, Driving Under the Hudson: The History of the Holland and Lincoln Tunnels, which will run through July 1, 2012. This will include a talk by Dr. Robert W. Jackson on Sunday, May 20th, who will be discussing his newly published book: Highway Under the Hudson, A History of the Holland Tunnel.

The Statue of Liberty celebrated its 125th anniversary pn October 28, 2011. Lady Liberty was designated as an International Historic Civil Engineering Landmark by ASCE and the Société des Ingénieurs et Scientifiques de France in 1985. It includes an internal iron framework supporting the copper that was designed by Alexandre-Gusteve Eiffel. The restoration project prior to the statue's centennial received ASCE's Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award in 1987.

The Robert F. Kennedy Bridge celebrated its 75th Anniversary on July 11, 2011. Commonly thought as just of a suspension bridge across the East River, the 3.5-mile long complex also includes a vertical lift across the Harlem River, a truss bridge across the Bronx Kill, a viaduct across Randall's and Wards Islands and a three-legged roadway interchange and toll plaza complex.

 When the widening of the Panama Canal is completed in 2014, a new generation of "Panamax" ships will begin to dock at ports along the East Coast. However, the existing 151-foot vertical clearance of the Bayonne Bridge would pose navigational issues for taller types of vessels using the Kill Van Kull to reach New Jersey's container terminals in Elizabeth and Newark.
