Met Section Students Recognized as New Faces of Civil Engineering Print E-mail
Met Section

Ten promising civil engineering college students have been recognized by ASCE through its first annual New Faces of Civil Engineering – College Edition, two of which are from student chapters in the Met Section. These students are being recognized for achieving the highest standards as college civil engineering students, whose academic success and extracurricular engagement point to a bright future as professionals in the field of civil engineering. "These students are an inspiration to future generations of students seeking a career in which they can make a difference," said ASCE President Andrew Herrmann, P.E.

Anitha Reddy is a student at The Cooper Union that is fascinated with civil and environmental engineering. She worked at a wastewater treatment plant, focusing on aeration tank operations. She also encourages inner city youth to pursue STEM-related fields and is always excited to share her passion with young students. In the future, Anitha plans to research, develop and implement large scale waterless sanitation systems.

Younger Members Help to Revitalize Jamaica's PS 48Q Print E-mail

On Saturday, October 15th, 2011, younger members from New York City and Long Island, as well as student members from Hofstra University, converged in Jamaica, Queens, to help revitalize PS 48Q, the William Wordsworth School. The volunteers had a fun, fulfilling and successful day planting bulbs, organizing books and painting a mural, all in an effort to enrich the learning environment for the students of PS 48Q.

Younger Members on Long Island Discuss Formation of YMG Print E-mail

On November 10, 2011, younger civil engineers from Nassau and Suffolk counties convened at the Davenport Press in Mineola to discuss the potential for establishing an ASCE Younger Member Group (YMG) on Long Island. The event kicked-off with a networking hour for participants to have a drink and chat with one another.
