Curious George

Curious George is taking on civil engineering with the help of ASCE! A new math- and science-based educational resource targeting kindergarten and first grade students has been developed with Universal Studios and educational publisher Scholastic. Civil engineers can visit classrooms to help teachers reinforce standard lessons on shapes, man-made versus natural objects, and many other concepts. With the beloved Curious George character as a connection, this project celebrates the inquisitive nature of engineers of all ages!

Engineers Are Currently Needed For:

- Bronx (3)
- Bronxville (1)
- Brooklyn (2)
- Lindenhurst (1)
- Malverne (1)
- Massapequa (1)
- New York (2)
- Oyster Bay (1)
- Port Chester (1)
- Smithtown (1)

Here's how the engineer-in-class program works: Teachers log onto the Scholastic Web site to request a classroom visit by a local engineer. ASCE then extends a call to members in that region and connects interested engineers with the teacher who submitted the request. ASCE also equips each engineer with an information packet containing helpful hints to use with young audiences in classroom settings.

Many teachers are interested in scheduling class visits now or for a possible future date (next school season) in the ASCE Met Section. If you live or work within the following areas listed in the table and would like to participate in the Curious George Engineer-In-Classroom Program, please email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . You will be connected to teachers in one of these areas who have requested an engineer to visit their classroom and help reinforce lessons from the Curious George Let's Build Teaching Guide. We look forward to hearing from you!
