Elementary School Students
(Grades K-5, Ages 6-11)

| Each year, the ASCE Met Section organizes a day of fun and interactive activities for kids to learn about engineering during National Engineers Week. |
- Curious George – This is a program for kids in kindergarten and the first grade that helps students engage their natural curiosity to build and create. Lesson plans are included for teachers.
- Cyberchase – Produced by Thirteen/WNET, New York City's PBS station, this television series teaches math concepts to children by having kids solve mysteries.
- Fetch! – This television program is a mix of a game show and reality TV where kids learn problem-solving skills and how to work as a team as they solve science challenges.
- National Engineers Week – Held each February, this event recognizes the contributions of engineers to society and educates the public and students about what engineers do.
- New York City Kid's Day Activities – During National Engineers Week, the Met Section organizes a day of activities for children to learn about civil engineering through interactive games and other fun activities.
- ZOOM into Engineering – This program allows kids to learn how engineering is important to their lives and how exciting activities apply to things that engineers do everyday.
Middle School Students
(Grades 6-8, Ages 12-14)
- ASCEville – Besides being a fun "town" that exposes kids to the vital role that civil engineering plays in their lives every day, this website also includes interactive activities and resources for teachers, parents, and engineers. Handouts and activity guides can be requested from ASCE's Pre-College Outreach program.
- Building Big – This outreach program is based on an award-winning PBS television miniseries that examines bridges, domes, skyscrapers, tunnels, and dams, and gets kids thinking about types of structures that they see in everyday life.
- Design Squad – This is a reality TV show where kids compete in a series of engineering challenges.
- Discover Engineering – This is a website that helps students learn about engineering and decide if it is a career for them.

- National Engineers Week – Held each February, this event recognizes the contributions of engineers to society and educates the public and students about what engineers do.
- Future City Competition – This annual competition provides middle school students with a hands-on challenge to design their vision for a city of the future.
- New York City Regional Competition – Students from New York City, Long Island, and the Lower Hudson Valley compete against each other to determine the winning team that will advance to the national competition in Washington, DC
- West Point Bridge Design Contest – This contest provides students with an opportunity to learn about engineering design through a realistic, hands-on problem solving process.
High School Students
(Grades 9-12, Ages 15-18)
- ACE Mentor Program – This program introduces high school students to career opportunities in architecture, construction and engineering through mentoring and also provides scholarship opportunities.
- Modern Marvels – This television series on the History Channel has featured episodes of civil engineering marvels across the globe as some of the engineering wonders in our area including the: Brooklyn Bridge, Chrysler Building, Empire State Building, George Washington Bridge, New York Bridges, New York City Subway, Statue of Liberty, Times Square, and World Trade Center.
