The Long Island Branch serves ASCE members that reside and/or work in Nassau and Suffolk counties. Each year, the Long Island Branch organizes a variety of activities including several technical lectures that provide continuing education (PDH) credits necessary for maintaining professional licensure, a golf tournament, a transportation luncheon, and an awards dinner. These events supplement the program offered by the Met Section and are convenient for members that may not be able to travel to Manhattan to attend ASCE Met Section events.

To receive announcements of upcoming Long Island Branch meetings on a regular basis, you can subscribe to the Met Section listserv. For more information about the ASCE Long Island Branch, you can contact any of the LIB officers or send an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

2010 – 2011 President’s Message

The Long Island Branch has been active this summer! Our first Board meeting was held on June 24, 2010. The major topic of discussion was planning for the 2010 – 2011 year's activities:

  • September 16, 2010 - ITE/ASCE Joint Transportation Mtg @ Milleridge Inn Cottage House, Jericho
  • September 29, 2010 - Golf Outing @ Timber Point Golf Course
  • October 14, 2010 - Technical Meeting @ Domenico's Restaurant, Levittown Eileen Keenan from the New York Sea Grant (on loan to NYSDEC)   Topic – "Protecting Water Resources: Mitigating Stormwater Runoff and the Ongoing Impacts of Development"
  • November 18, 2010 - Technical Meeting – (Topic to be determined) @ Domenico's Restaurant, Levittown. 6:30 PM
  • December 3, 2010 – Transportation Luncheon 12 noon @ Carlyle on the Green, Bethpage State Park
  • January 13, 2011 - Technical Meeting – Anticipated topic is "Ethics" @ Domenico's Restaurant, Levittown. 6:30 PM

Please save these dates and check the ASCE web site for updates. We look forward to your participation in these events and encourage you to contact any Board with topics you’d like to present to the LI Branch.

We encourage you to participate in ASCE as well as Long Island Branch activities. There are many ways to do this. You can become a committee member; chair a committee or create a committee. For example, you may have an interest in a particular specialty and might want to start a committee dedicated to sharing technical knowledge and experience. We would like to create an Awards Committee who would make recommendations to the Board for the annual awards presented at the May Dinner Dance. We would like to see the creation of a Scholarship Committee dedicated solely to the oversight of this effort. Another way to participate is student outreach, particularly college students who are interested in civil engineering and encourage them to attend our meetings and make contacts for future employment.  If you are interested in writing, prepare a technical paper and submit it for publication! This is the challenge to you: get involved with ASCE; attend technical meetings; join a committee; write a technical paper for presentation; and reach out to civil engineering students!
