Tappan Zee Award Print E-mail
This award is presented for a major and complex civil engineering project in the Lower Hudson Valley. This award is named after the Tappen Zee, a name derived from Indians and Dutch settlers that inhabited the area during pre-colonial days to describe the wide expanse of the Hudson River located between Nyack, NY and Tarrytown, NY. In 1955, the 3.1-mile long Tappan Zee Bridge opened across this section of the Hudson River.
