The purpose of the Life Member Committee is to facilitate the involvement of Life Members in local Section activities. The committee seeks to identify new activities that cater to the interest of ASCE Life Members residing in the New York City area and to provide opportunities for Life Members to interact with each other. There are over 700 Life Members in the Met Section and their collective experience in the civil engineering and lifetime service to ASCE represents one of the Section's most valuable assets.

To obtain Life Member status, ASCE members must have reached the age of 65 years, paid dues in any membership grade except Student Member for at least thirty years, and have had ten years of continuous membership immediately prior to receiving their Life Member certificates. Newly inducted life members of the Met Section are recognized at the annual Ridgway Awards event.
