Russian and Swiss Engineering Groups Visit New York City Print E-mail
Brooklyn Bridge Site Tour The Hospitality Committee had the opportunity of organizing site tours and technical presentations for two contingents of engineers. These visits were customized to address the groups' specific interests and requests. On September 22, 2008, a group of nine engineers from Russia that had been attending the IABSE Conference in Chicago went on a site tour of the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges followed by a technical presentation in the Parsons Brinckerhoff offices. The Brooklyn Bridge site tour was led by Russell Holcomb, Tim Whitehouse and Lev Gold of NYCDOT. The Manhattan Bridge site tour was led by Brian Gill of NYCDOT and Jim Tarpey of GPI. Roger Haight led the presentations at the Parsons Brinckerhoff offices. The visitors engaged in a very meaningful exchange of ideas and were particularly interested in all aspects of bridge maintenance.

Brooklyn Bridge Site TourOn October 2, 2008, a group of 23 CEOs and Managing Directors from the Swiss "Vaudois Business Federation" in the fields of construction and/or civil engineering attended technical presentations on the 145th Street and Willis Avenue bridges and the new Yankee Stadium at the officers of Hardesty & Hanover. The group then visited those construction sites. Andy Herrmann, Paul Skelton, Mike Hershey, and Paul Connolly of Hardesty & Hanover led the bridge presentations and visits, and Mike Squarzini and Jesse Chrismer of Thornton Tomasetti led the ones at Yankee Stadium. The feedback from the group leader was that the group was very happy with the visits.

The Met Section is grateful to all of the above-mentioned engineers (and a few more who also participated in these successful events from behind the scenes) for making time in their busy schedules to support these activities.
