Dutch Civil Engineering Students Visit New York City Print E-mail
Dutch civil engineering students With March being "Spring Break" month for college students, the ASCE Met Section Hospitality Committee again received the visit of a contingent of civil engineering students from Avans University in the Netherlands, led by Prof. J.A. G. Sloots.

In this occasion, the Met Section arranged for two events. On Monday, March 16th, the 28 students and their professors visited the offices of Thornton Tomasetti, where Michael Squarzini gave a wide ranging presentation on the recent construction of the new Yankee Stadium, and Building Information Management (BIM).

On Wednesday, March 18th, the group walked across the Brooklyn Bridge guided by Dr. Bojidar Yanev of NYCDOT and Maria Grazia Bruschi of Parsons. Besides learning about the original construction of the bridge, they also learned about the subsequent bridge retrofits, rehabilitation and ongoing maintenance projects.

The Met Section thanks Mr. Squarzini and Dr. Yanev for their availability to meet and talk to these civil engineering students from Holland.
