On Tuesday, November 10, 2015, the Long Island Branch Younger Member Committee hosted a PE Information Session at Hofstra University. The information session was a panel of four Professional Engineers, YanLiang Huang , P.E. (Hirani Engineering and Land Surveying), James Causarano, P.E. (D&B Engineers and Architects, P.C.), Joseph Pasaturo, P.E. (AVT Engineering PLLC), and Thomas Petracca, P.E. (Petracca Design and Engineering, P.C.)
Each panelist began by discussing their work experience and offering personal tips on preparing for and taking the exam. Some of the topics discussed include how to fill out the application, recommended review courses, required reference materials, and practice tests. During this the panelists took questions from the audience, leading to a very interactive and informative session.
James Causarano had attended last year's PE information session as an EIT and has since obtained his PE. It was great to hear him reiterate how much the information session helped him to prepare for the exam! We hope to have a current attendee be a panelist next year!
Joseph Pasaturo is the VP of NYSSPE (The New York State Society of Professional Engineers, Inc.) and is on the board which reviews the New York State PE Applications. He offered exceptional tips on how to prepare and submit the application to New York State. He also gave examples of the dos and don'ts when it comes to the experience section of the application which is often the most difficult.
The attendees had experience ranging from entry level to senior level engineers interested in obtaining their PE. It was great to see young civil engineers on Long Island looking to advance their careers! We hope to see you at next year's annual PE Information Session.
