Updated Guide to NYC Civil Engineering Projects Published Print E-mail
Sightseeing at the Brooklyn BridgeThe International Group has published the second edition (2009) of its Guide to Civil Engineering Projects In and Around New York City, a pocket-size booklet that describes the many of the city's engineering wonders including its skyscrapers, bridges, tunnels, highways, subways, water supply and wastewater systems, and transportation terminals.

The guide is designed to provide the public and visitors with an overview of some of the major civil engineering landmarks in the NYC Metropolitan area. The guide has interesting historical information and useful for educational purposes and a location guide.

The new 140-page booklet has been significantly expanded and improved upon over the first 36-page edition published in 1997. Changes include:

  • The entire guide has been reorganized and is now sorted by categories based on types of facilities and structures.
  • A new section for buildings has been added, organized by type of construction.
  • Most entries have been expanded with greater historical and technical detail.
  • Enhanced and expanded maps are used.
  • Directions to all of the cited locations via road access and public transportation have been provided.

The Guide to Civil Engineering Projects In and Around New York City was produced by the International Group with assistance from the Hospitality and History & Heritage Committees. A number of individuals volunteered their time to help create the second edition of the guide including Ainsley Allen, Essam Bader, Armen K. Boyajian, Maria Grazia Bruschi, Seth Condell, Virginia Fairweather, Amy Geller, Donald Friedman, Beatrice E. Hunt, L.F. Christian Ingerslev, Elena Kariyannis, Steve Kaufman, Chee K.
