The Deep Foundations Institute (DFI) is pleased to announce Joel Moskowitz, P.E., as the recipient of its 2009 Distinguished
Service Award. This prestigious honor is awarded to individuals who have made
lifetime contributions in the deep foundations design and construction industries.
Moskowitz, Partner at Mueser Rutledge Consulting Engineers in New York City, will be given the award at the October 22nd Awards Banquet of DFI's 34th Annual Conference on Deep Foundations in Kansas City, MO. His selection for the 28-year old award was based on his accomplishments in the foundation construction industry and his many years of support of the Institute. Joel served as the president of DFI in 1995-1996. He was also chairman of DFI's Augered Cast-in-Place Pile Committee during its early days, back in 1992. Moskowitz, who has a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Rutgers University and an M.S. in Soil Mechanics from Northwestern University, has 40 years of experience in the design and construction of deep foundations, specializing in the geotechnical aspects of projects. Notable large and complicated foundation projects on which Joel has worked are the World Trade Center Development, Hudson Bergen Light Rail, Boston Central Artery and the Bank of America and New York Times Headquarters buildings in New York City. He was also in charge of the geotechnical aspects of the 30 Hudson Street project in Jersey City, NJ, winner of the 2003 DFI Outstanding Project Award. Joel has authored over 15 publications on drilled and driven pile case histories and lectured at Hofstra, Princeton, Polytechnic Institute and Northwestern University. His professional activities include membership in DFI, ASCE, ADSC, The Moles, New Jersey Professional Engineers in Construction and SEAoNY as well as having been the chairman of the Metropolitan Section Soil Mechanics and Foundations Group from 1978-1979. Deep Foundations Institute, incorporated in 1976, is a not-for-profit professional association of firms and individuals in the deep foundation and related industries.
