Crane Safety Training Over 150 people attended the "Crane Safety Training for Engineers and Supervisors" lecture at Domenico's Restaurant Pizzeria in Levittown on October 15, 2009, setting an all-time attendance record for a Long Island Branch event since its inception in 1971. Speakers Matthew J. Burkart, P.E. and Harlan Fair presented material that allowed construction engineers, supervisors, and owners to learn more about crane safety on construction sites and how important it is to have crane safety plans so that accidents can be prevented.

A construction safety expert with over 40 years in the construction industry, Matt Burkart is an active committee leader with the ASCE Construction Institute (CI) and ASCE.

ASCE Long Island Branch Technical Lecture

The lecture was jointly presented with the Construction Institute of ASCE and focused on establishing a crane safety and lifting program, mobile cranes and alternate lifting methods, rigging awareness, site preparation, preventing crane and lifting accidents, and regulations and legal aspects.

As a special treat to all attendees—besides the pizza—2 PDH credits were given free of charge to all ASCE members.

The event was a great success and the Long Island Branch thanks Erin Santiago at ASCE for helping to coordinate this event and especially to our speakers for a great presentation.
