On November 19, 2009, Robert B. Bittner, P.E. delivered the 19th Annual Mueser Rutledge Technical Lecture at the CUNY Graduate Center Recital Hall. Mr. Bittner is the President of Bittner-Shen Consulting Engineers, Inc., located in Portland, Oregon. He delivered a lecture titled "Construction Methods and Design of Marine Structures–The Search for a Better Solution."

In order to design an efficient marine structure, it is essential to identify and develop the optimum construction means and methods early in the design phase of a project. In this lecture, Mr. Bittner discussed why it is essential to identify the optimum construction process early in the design phase, how this process is identified, when this identification should take place, and the criteria used to determine the optimum construction process. He also presented four marine project examples where construction input was provided early in the design of the structures and the resulting benefits to the projects.

Mr. Bittner has made available a paper based version of his pdf presentation.
