On a cold and windy Saturday morning in April, ten dedicated and motivated members of the ASCE Met Section Younger Member Forum helped revitalize a Community Garden in the East New York section of Brooklyn. This effort came together through the annual Hands on New York Day that is organized by New York Cares, a non-profit organization, to help revitalize New York City's public spaces.

Members volunteered their time to weed, remove debris, and set up planter beds to be used to grow produce to be enjoyed at no charge to the residents of the neighborhood. The event was very successful and the participants expressed enthusiasm to get involved in future community service events like this one. Events like this and other community service events exemplify the passion and commitment of young engineers towards building a better quality of life by strengthening communities, promoting sustainability, and advocating environmental stewardship.
