Mr. Peter Smith delivered the first technical lecture for the fall of 2011 to the ASCE Met Section Geotechnical Group on the topic of "Energy Piles®, Design and Case Studies". The event was held on October 11, 2011 at the CUNY Graduate Center in Midtown Manhattan.
In 2008, Peter was appointed to his current position as Geothermal Manager and is responsible for the development and installation of Cementation's Energy pile® projects across the UK. In his presentation, Peter introduced and explained the concept of ground source energy, the drivers for its use, and the environmental and sustainable benefits. He also gave an indication of relative costs, design considerations and project integration. Peter introduced several case studies at One New Change (UK biggest energy pile® contract), NeoBankside (deepest energy piles®) and Knightsbridge (UK first diaphragm Wall). Peter also covered the latest research and other potential uses of energy piles®.
