On September 14, 2007, nearly 100 members of the Met Section Younger Member Forum had a once in a lifetime opportunity to visit the Citi Field construction site, located adjacent to Shea Stadium in Flushing, Queens. The new ballpark for the New York Mets is expected to be completed by Opening Day in April 2009. Citi Field will be a 1.26 million square foot facility with a capacity for approximately 45,000 fans. The design of the exterior façade and main entry rotunda is inspired by Ebbets Field, the home of the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1913-1957.

The tour of Citi Field was conducted by construction site representatives, including a general contractor, construction manager, and structural engineer. In addition to learning about the how the stadium was designed and being constructed, YMF members got a behind the scenes look of the site of the Mets' future locker room and training facility located beneath the first base stands as well as the Jackie Robinson Rotunda behind home plate. After the construction site tour, YMF members gathered for a pregame tailgate party before watching the Mets play the Philadelphia Phillies in a battle between National League East division rivals.
